Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Piper

Elizabeth “Liz” Luella Piper, a resident of Basalt for 37 years, died Feb. 4 in Sterling, Colo., where she resided near her son, Jeep. She was 98.

Liz babysat friends’ children and was very active in the Methodist church, cooking for many of the activities and helping with a Tuesday after-school program. She was active in the weekly gathering of local ladies attending the Sewing Club, which years later turned into cards and dominos.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles A. and Emma Mae Penney; her husband, Edwin W. Piper; and son Donald Piper. She is survived by children James (Janice) Piper of Sterling, Colo., Tommy (Joyce) Piper of Conifer, Colo. and Linda Shell of Portland, Ark., along with many grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held in El Jebel at the Crown Mountain Community Center on Friday, June 8 at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of your choice in Elizabeth’s memory. (Contact: Jim Piper at 970-522-6492 or 19031 Landers Lane, Sterling, CO 80751.)
