Eleanor Louise Gillman
Eleanor Louise Gillman passed away May 23, 2011, with her family by her side in Glenwood Springs, Colo.
Eleanor was born May 30, 1933 in Bellingham, Wash. to Karl and Bertha Erchinger.
She attended high school in Bellingham, Wash., and married Robert Porter Gillman on Nov. 19, 1951. They lived in Alaska in 1952, where Bob was stationed with the Air Force Reserve. The couple moved to southern California in 1953. There, Ellie took pride in raising her four sons. A devoted mother, she supported their need for speed; all were involved in motorsports in their early years. Bob and Ellie enjoyed annual vacations to Aspen, Colo. and made a permanent move to the Rockies in 1989, where she hosted festive holiday gatherings for her family.
She enjoyed the mountains, women’s ski clinics, reading, history, fashion, interior design and art. Eleanor was an avid collector of Native American art to include paintings, sculptures and Kachina dolls. Her love of travel led her to many adventures abroad as well as throughout the United States.
Eleanor is survived by her brother, Karl Erchinger; four sons, Gary, Michael, Jeffery and Scott Gillman; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She is further survived by nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Robert Porter Gillman.
