ASPEN – An El Jebel man was arrested Thursday on a four-year-old warrant that stemmed from an investigation into an alleged burglary.

Concepcion Carcamo-Portillo, 31, is accused of felony criminal impersonation. He faces up to 18 months in prison if convicted.

Judge James Boyd advised him of the potential charge at an afternoon hearing in Pitkin County District Court in Aspen. Carcamo-Portillo was being held on $2,500 bond at the Pitkin County jail.

His arrest stems from a burglary investigation in May 2005 by Aspen police. A detective was given the name of a potential witness or suspect in the case, a police report shows.

While searching records the detective came upon a Basalt police criminal impersonation report involving Carcamo-Portillo as a suspect using a different name. Authorities also learned that Carcamo-Portillo worked at a business in Pitkin County.

Business records showed he was allegedly using a different name with a home address in Aspen. A further search of criminal records also turned up outstanding warrants for Carcamo-Portillo in Garfield County as well as a couple of aliases. Carcamo-Portillo was later contacted at his job site.

He allegedly provided police with a fake Mexican identification card. The card had a different name, according to the report. He told Ross that he purchased the card in Mexico.

A subsequent police records check turned up no information on the fake identification.

Carcamo-Portillo was then offered “the option of providing his fingerprints” to verify identity. The fingerprints were submitted to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the police report states.

Carcamo-Portillo managed to slip away from authorities while they were waiting for fingerprint verification.

He was in the Garfield County jail Thursday when authorities apparently ran a criminal search and discovered he was wanted in Pitkin County.

Carcamo-Portillo was then taken to Pitkin County for his advisement hearing. He is to next appear in Pitkin County District Court at 10:30 a.m. June 15.
