Ed Lucks

Ed Lucks, who pioneered adaptive skiing techniques and equipment for the disabled, died on Friday, April 6, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. Ed was born June 13, 1924 in Lakefield, Minn. Ed was a 2005 inductee into the Colorado Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame. He was also the neighborhood pharmacist in Snowmass Village for many years. He retired to the Grand Valley with his wife, Evie, who preceded him in death in 2007. Ed Lucks is survived by four children, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.In addition to his dedication to teaching adaptive skiing, Ed also spent countless unpaid hours in his garage fabricating adaptive ski gear to meet a student’s needs. Many of his prototypes were later refined and brought into industry use. Ed’s work in adaptive skiing was instrumental in the vision, the success and continual development of the disabled ski program at Aspen/Snowmass and nationally.A brief memorial service for Ed Lucks will be held on Saturday, April 21 at 11 a.m.at Crossroads United Methodist Church, corner of 30 Road and F Road (Patterson), in Grand Junction, Colo. A celebration of the life and career of Ed Lucks will be held in Snowmass Village at a future date.Memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice or to Challenge Aspen, P.O.
