Dear Editor:

It’s not rocket science – 14.4 percent is the real unemployed. We must demand that our federal government help these people. Our fellow citizens are in pain.

The only way to get these people work is by federal projects. God knows there is plenty of need for smart initiatives. Here’s a laundry list:

• Provide more money for states.

• Increase employment through a federal program of work sharing.

• Public investment in energy saving. Divert NASA funds to save energy.

• A small (0.03 percent) tax on financial transactions. The markets are soaring.

• A more competitive dollar. The weaker dollar means more exports.

The above was provided by Mark Weisbrot, an American economist. Spend money, make money. Not rocket science.
