Easter on Aspen Mountain

ASPEN ” An Easter service will be held on Aspen Mountain at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, March 23.

The Silver Queen Gondola will open at 7 a.m. for the service. Season ski passes and daily ski tickets will be hon­ored. Foot passes are $17 for adults, $13 for youths and $8 for chil­dren.

Breakfast selections will be served at the Sundeck restaurant both before and after the service. Bring warm clothes and a blanket to sit on.

The service will be led by the Rev. Gregg Anderson and will feature music by Mac Bailey, Bobby Mason, J.D. Martin, Ellen Stapenhorst, Jan Garrett and Rachael Levy.

In addition, a traditional Easter serv­ice will be held at the Aspen Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, featuring the 30-­member chapel choir. Services are open to all. For more information, call 925-7184.

Snowmass has received 7 inches of new snow over the past 24 hours, according to the Aspen Skiing Co.’s Friday morning snow report. Aspen Mountain and Aspen Highlands picked up 6 inches, and Buttermilk got 5 inches.

Avalanche danger includes pockets of considerable on steep, wind-loaded slopes slopes facing N-NE-E-SE near and above treeline. The danger is moderate on other aspects near and above treeline. Below treeline the danger rated moderate today. Look for an increase in danger at the lowest elevations of the zone if we do pick up the forecasted rain.
