East of Aspen Trail ribbon-cutting set
August 22, 2012
ASPEN – The public is invited to help celebrate Colorado Land Conservation Appreciation Week and the completion of the last leg of the East of Aspen Trail at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. Thursday.
The five-mile trail runs adjacent to Highway 82 from downtown Aspen to Difficult Campground, east of town.
Completion of the link has been a long time coming, according to Lindsey Utter, Pitkin County Open Space and Trails recreation planner. Though sections have been built over 20 years, the last piece – from Wildwood Drive to the campground entrance – allows bicyclists, runners and pedestrians to reach Difficult without traveling on the busy highway.
Refreshments will be available, and prizes will be handed out. The public is asked to bicycle to the event if possible or, if driving, park at the Difficult Campground entrance and walk down to Wildwood Lane, where the ribbon-cutting will take place.
