Earth Day parade

Dear Editor:On Tuesday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m., the town of Basalt will host its 10th annual Earth Day parade! This annual tradition was created by children, for children, with the dream of a beautiful world today and tomorrow.Everyone loves a parade! The Basalt Elementary School students and faculty create costumes, make signs, sing songs, pick up trash, wave banners and walk in their parade with teachers, parents and pride. The town of Basalt lovingly took the Earth Day parade under their wings – they greet the children of the parade’s end in front of Town Hall and declare Earth Day on behalf of the children. Please come join in the celebration of our children and their Earth! Walk with them – bring signs, wagons, yourself, and show our young people that you support them. (The parade route begins behind the Basalt Elementary School.) We welcome children and adults from all communities – Aspen, Carbondale, Rifle, Glenwood, etc. If you don’t want to walk in the parade, come line quaint Midland Avenue in Basalt and cheer our young children on as they march by! They will never forget it, and you will help them believe in their future and the health of our environment. We can make a difference!Denise HayesParade founder and co-sponsorBasalt
