Dear Editor:On the weekend of Aug. 13 and 14, a group of more than 23 Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts sweated, strained and endured hot temperatures to paint the exterior of the library. It had been more than 20 years since the exterior of the Basalt Regional Library was painted. This project was organized by Riley Eaton for his Eagle Scout project. Riley met with library staff to review what materials, supplies and equipment were needed. He then worked to collect the various items and coordinate the work schedule. Forrest Painting and Decorating donated ladders, dropcloths and other equipment, saving the library a significant amount of money. Ace Hardware from Carbondale generously donated two benches to put outside the library’s front door, creating a gathering place for people to stop and visit. The Basalt Regional Library staff and the library board would like to thank Riley Eaton and the whole Eaton family for their project coordination and hard work. The young men who wielded paint rollers and brushes in the warm August weather also deserve hardy thanks for all of their work. This project is a fine example of how community members can significantly contribute to their community and make a project a reality. Riley and all, thanks for your hard work, humor and perseverance. We really appreciate it! The library looks fabulous.Susan PetersonBasalt Regional Library
