EAGLE, Colo. – A Minturn man who died while kayaking on an Eagle River Saturday was wearing a life preserver and a helmet.

Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis says the victim was 31-year-old John Novak of Minturn, who was a private river trip on the Eagle River with two friends.

The cause of Novak’s death is still under an investigation. His kayak overturned near the Eagle County Fairgrounds.

Bettis says that rivers and streams are running high and fast because of melting snowpack and urged caution.
