E.F. ‘Army’ Armstrong
December 10, 2008
E.F. “Army” Armstrong died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at age 93 at his home in Fountain Hills, Ariz.
Army and his wife, Sara, came to Aspen in the early ’50s, along with old friend Patricia Moore. Sara and Army were well-known in the community as the owners of the original Copper Kettle Restaurant at the present-day Aspen Music School campus, and then for many years at the Aspen Meadows and also downtown at the Tippler, which they also owned.
Sara and Army moved to Fountain Hills in the late ’70s, where Army continued his great love of gardening and Sara, who died in 1996, started a business called the Desert Kettle.
Army requested there be no memorial service.
