Duane Barta, 52, of Denver, Colo. died peacefully on Oct. 21, 2010.

Duane was born on Dec. 30, 1957 to Helen and Sherman Barta of Basalt, Colo.

After graduating from Basalt High School in 1976, he worked for the Aspen Skiing Co. for several years before moving to Denver, where he was employed by Bellco Credit Union. Duane enjoyed skiing, hiking, bicycling and gardening.

He is predeceased by his father, Sherman, and brothers John and Rorie. Duane is survived by his partner, Bill Nappe of Denver; his mother, Helen of Carbondale; brothers Darwin Barta (Myrna) of Basalt and Hal Barta (Donna) of Kansas City, Mo.; sisters Marcette Messer (Hezz) of Green Ville, Penn., Deborah Barta (Rick Leonard) of Basalt and Audrey Fix (Barney) of Aurora, Colo.; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a charity of your choice, the Colorado AIDS Project or to the Alzheimer’s Association

A Mass celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Basalt.
