Draft of forest plan almost ready

Aspen Times Staff Report

The White River National Forest has announced that a draft of its Resource Management Plan will be released in July.

Martha Ketelle, White River National Forest supervisor, has indicated the plan will be available as a soft-bound book, on CD-ROM, and it will be also accessible on the Internet. Included will be the management plan, a draft environmental impact statement, appendices, a summary and a separate map package.

Because of the size and complexity of the maps, those who order the CD-ROM or prefer to view the plan on the Internet will be sent the map package.

Citizens may comment on the draft plan during a 90-day period following the release of the documents. During the comment period, Forest Service representatives will be available to make presentations to local organizations on the contents of the documents.

Those on the White River National Forest’s mailing list can expect to receive a letter with a return-mail card to request a copy of the plan. Others can obtain a copy by contacting Betty Schmitt, P. O. Box 948, Glenwood Springs, CO. 81601, or by calling 945-3249.
