Dowley for school board

Dear Editor:

I can think of no other person so invested in our local children and schools than Carmen Farr Dowley. Carmen is running for a position on the Aspen School District’s board of education.

Raised in Aspen herself, Carmen currently has three girls in the school system. I have had the pleasure of working alongside Carmen as a parent volunteer in the classroom, as a chaperone on class trips, a substitute teacher, and an AEF board member. She is smart, determined and always ready with a joke to make you laugh and smile and put you at ease.

As a parent volunteer no task was too small or mundane; if her child’s teacher needed something done, she did it. As a substitute teacher she knows her stuff and is prepared, thorough and fun. As a member on the AEF board she was a go-getter, coming up with new ideas, better ways of doing things and always prepared to be the one responsible for seeing things through. Carmen is detail oriented, highly organized, and familiar with hundreds of kids in her many roles in the community. As a coach I have even seen her drive the kids in the bus to a game!

I can think of no other candidate with a truly inside and out knowledge of our educational system and who is committed to giving every child the best chance at success. You already see her everywhere. Organizing and chaperoning outdoor ed trips, raising money for uniforms or equipment. She is involved with the ski swap, the college fair, SAC, Parent Council, Booster club. Everything I would want a school board member to do and participate in so they can see their work in action, Carmen is already doing everything. I am thrilled she wants to take on the responsibilities that come with being on the board of education as we enter into a very difficult time financially.

Please mail in your ballots with a vote for Carmen!
