Don’t underestimate the ‘quiet years’ folks

Dear Editor,

This letter is to be directed to Elizabeth Milias in response to her letter “I am Milias, hear me roar.”

I have to admit to being part of Su Lum’s “Small band of ‘bring back the quiet years’ folks.” I think that you may not understand the numbers that band may represent. You may possibly be underestimating us.

I moved here a LONG time ago, as a teenager. I love this town and its characters. I have had the pleasure and good fortune of knowing and sharing opinions with so many of Aspen’s women of substance – Elizabeth Paepke, Alberta Moore, Hildur Anderson, Peggy Rowland, Alice Rachel Sardy, Betty Pfister, Joan Fitzpatrick and many many more I know I’m neglecting. Women who loved this town. Women who didn’t always agree with me or with each other. But they were never MEAN!! And as hard as I try to remember, not one of them ever bragged that they were on their way to a massage. Oh, please!!

Perhaps I will begin to collect five-dollar bills (I could give pennies back) so I could buy Su a massage.

Penny Richey
