Don’t run over our neighborhood

Dear Editor:I am e-mailing you to say that, as a long-time resident of Missouri Heights in Carbondale, and a taxpayer and citizen, I expect the highest standard of ethical behavior from our educators and administrators of education the School Board. I question the ethics of your decision, to use your power to override the residential/agricultural zoning status of your announced site for the school bus barn on Catherine Store Road. This installation is clearly industrial and belongs in one of the many industrial sites in Basalt or Carbondale. Would you want this bus barn next door to you? The site is the two-acre property enclosed by chain-link fencing, with a small metal building on it. Access to the site is down a quarter-of-a-mile long driveway that cuts through other residential property. The school board complains that the barn would make a traffic problem in any other location, but the traffic problem, not to mention the noise/nuisance, will be horrendous in this location. Please listen to the people who put you in power and voted to increase school funds. We are your neighbors, and we implore you to find another site. Not only will this bus barn create a hardship for adjacent property owners, but also will irreparably change the nature our neighborhood. This is a bad plan, that angers the entire community. The bus barn belongs in a true industrial zone. I volunteer to help you find another site.Preserve your ethics and our neighborhood!Barbara McElneaMissouri Heights
