Don’t let opportunities slip by

We live in a town ever changing, growing and surviving. Both you and I have been a part of negative and positive changes, watched them occur, and accepted them as pieces to the puzzle of life.

Think about the changes that have occurred over your lifetime. Where would you be without these changes? Life might be very different, not so enjoyable, more enjoyable? Now think about the marketplace proposal. Negative thoughts? Why is it that immediately we have such strong negative feelings toward this positive opportunity for change? Why is everyone so willing to jump on the bandwagon of negativity versus looking at the positive aspects this marketplace could offer?

I have lived in Carbondale the 19 years of my life. Arriving home from CSU, I began reading the editorials about the marketplace. Thoughts of opportunity flooded through me. Adults and students could easily find well paying jobs. No more worrying about gas money and having to drive miles and miles up or downvalley to go to work or buy necessities, they would be right in town, close to home. More people would enter Carbondale to shop and dine at our local favorites too! Opportunity, opportunity, opportunity.

Some say Carbondale deserves better, exactly what is better? Change is not negative. We perceive it as negative. Positive opportunities and changes are on our horizon, don’t let them slip away. Opportunities such as these don’t come back around, they simply go elsewhere. I’m voting yes.
