Don’t fence them in
To the city of Aspen, thank you for wasting precious taxpayer dollars on the fencing at the Fourth of July parade.
It was highly effective in ensuring that candy got thrown at my face instead of my feet this year, while kids jumped the fence and grabbed the pieces in the street anyway. If the intent was to keep children out of the street, it failed.
Skip the fencing next year and allow kids to be kids or consider passing out helmets for the adults.

The property tax overcharge refunds are in the hands of Basalt residents. A new civic organization is cranking up its campaign to have recipients contribute some or all of their refunds to the Basalt Gives effort to benefit midvalley-serving nonprofits.
