Don’t drop the ball

Dear Editor:Eagle County voters can expect a ballot in the mail soon. Please vote! It’s a mail-in ballot so it’s easy. The only question on this ballot is whether or not to have Eagle County become a Home Rule County. If Eagle County becomes a Home Rule County, there will be five County Commissioners, one of which will be from the Western part of the County, not from Vail or Edwards. This would make communicating our needs and opinions to the County Commissioners so much easier that this alone makes the proposal worth voting for. Expanding the number of County Commissioners to five would also make it so that important decisions won’t be made by just two individuals when one Commissioner is absent. We would also get initiative and referendum powers. It’s up to us voters. Let’s not drop the ball this time around. Don’t be swayed by fear tactics and yard signs proclaiming a loss of your rights. Nothing could be farther from the truth.Gerry TerwilligerBasalt
