Donation helps expand Aspen Times’ digitization

ASPEN – The Aspen Historical Society announced Tuesday that $20,000 has been donated to continue the digitization of The Aspen Times. The funding will add four more decades of historical records to the current collection, which is searchable online.

The public already can search Aspen Times newspapers online from 1881 to 1923 as a result of a partnership among the Colorado Historic Newspaper Collection, Pitkin County Library, The Aspen Times and the Aspen Historical Society. Since 2005, there have been more than 1.95 million online viewings of local newspapers. With the donation, the newspapers available online will extend through 1965.

The anonymous gift of $20,000 was donated through the Friends of the Pitkin County Library.
