Doing the right thing

Dear Editor:

We would like to express our gratitude to our senators, Mark Udall and Michael Bennet, for voting in favor of the health insurance bill. This took courage as many of their constituents opposed it.

We support this bill on moral grounds. Just as we would not let our fellow citizens starve if they can not afford to feed themselves, we cannot continue to watch thousands die for lack of medical care they cannot afford. The mantra “We have the world’s best medical care” is true only if you can afford it.

Why else would the richest country in the world rate low compared to so many developed countries in life expectancy, and high in maternal and child mortality. It may cost money – that’s the price we pay for civilization. Thank you, senators, and don’t let the no’s take it away!
