Doing all we can
Dear Editor:Stephanie Thomas’ (“A plan for state’s ‘New Energy Future’,” Nov. 15, Aspen Times) op-ed neglected to cite the oil and natural gas industry’s efforts to increase energy efficiency and invest billions in new, emerging technologies that produce more oil and gas with less impact to the environment, land and wildlife. As demand continues to outpace supply, the abundance of oil and gas in the Rockies has become increasingly vital to maintaining our nation’s energy needs and boosting economies. Colorado alone has enough natural gas to heat 11.5 million homes for 15 years. New technologies allow us to provide these resources to consumers in an environmentally sound way.Colorado’s energy future is important. The Colorado Petroleum Association supports newly developed air pollution controls that limit emissions of volatile organic compounds, and is a leader in the use of ethanol fuel along the Front Range of Colorado. We are doing all we can today to ensure responsible energy development takes place and that everyone has access to affordable energy supplies.Stan Dempsey Jr.PresidentColorado Petroleum AssociationDenver
