DNC flags end up at McCain rally

The Associated Press
Aspen, CO Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ” Some of the American flags that were waved by the thousands attending a rally for John McCain and Sarah Palin were also at Invesco Field at Mile High stadium, where Barack Obama gave his acceptance speech.

Television footage showed McCain supporters on stage handing out the flags from black garbage bags before the candidates appeared Saturday. An unidentified man told Denver station KWGN-TV he found the flags in a rolloff container as he was helping clean up the stadium and that he believed they were being taken to the trash.

In a statement, the Democratic National Convention Committee said the flags were intended for other events and were taken from the stadium without permission. More than 125,000 American flags were distributed by the DNCC during the convention.

Supporters at the McCain rally said there were about 12,000 flags in 10 garbage bags.

A state McCain campaign official declined to comment.
