Diversity at the winter market

Dear Editor:

Three cheers to Scott Condon and The Aspen Times for the wonderful article about the Willits Winter Market! I have recently returned to the Roaring Fork Valley after spending many years as a co-director of a nonprofit in Tennessee whose mission was to educate folks about sustainable living, including the importance of buying local.

Today I am writing to give a shout-out to those of us artisans who are at the Willits Market every week. We are also part of the local movement – and a lot of us have actually committed to being at the Willits Winter Market for the entire season, unlike what was reported in the article.

The market is just as important to us as it is to the farmers and bakers with whom we work side-by-side. We have a leather-worker, photographer, jewelers, painter, flame worker, clothing-designer, body workers and more. So, next time you need to get a gift for a friend or want to treat yourself, come on down and support your local artists while shopping for your delectable local foods. We’d love to see you!
