Dirt decision a good thing

Dear Editor:On behalf of the Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Council, I want to thank the Aspen City Council for their decision to put part of the excess dirt from Burlingame on the Aspen Golf Course. Cross-country skiers will benefit both from more varied terrain and from improved snow retention afforded by the new dirt berms. I also want to thank the City Council for the decision to install a new, more efficient sprinkler system on the golf course. This system will greatly improve the ability to plant and maintain healthy trees. These trees provide shade and screen the roads and houses from the trails, and more healthy trees will improve the skiing experience on the golf course. The City Council is to be commended for this creative and sensible decision that benefits both skiers and golfers. Ben DodgePresident, Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Council
