Deny tower to protect our health

Dear Editor:I read the article in Thursday’s newspaper regarding the Sprint request to put a cell tower on the W/J property in Woody Creek (“Another tower of ‘babble’?,” Sept. 13). I encourage the commissioners to deny this request. I hope they can, since federal regulations do not allow opposition to cell towers based on health issues, which is the most important reason to oppose them.Cell phones have never been and cannot now be certified by the FDA or the FCC as safe for use by humans. How did the industry get a device that puts unprotected microwaves against human heads onto the market without premarket research or approval? Why are they marketing these devices to children of all ages, who are more vulnerable?Brain tumors are now the leading cause of solid tumor cancer death in children under age 20 (The Brain Tumor Society). Half of all American teenagers use cell phones, averaging 2,600 minutes per month. Many sleep with them under their pillows and use them as alarm clocks. It doesn’t matter whether the towers are disguised as pine or palm trees; it’s not about cosmetics. Research funded by the cell phone industry itself (more than 50 studies by 200 researchers to the tune of $28 million) has shown that information-carrying radio and microwaves cause DNA (genetic) damage and disrupt the blood brain barrier that protects the brain from toxins in the blood. If you do your own research, you will find that groups all over the United States and Europe are protesting the installation of cell towers and the expansion of WiFi, especially into the schools. Watch “Cell Phone War” by Klaus Scheidsteger or “Public Exposure” by The Ecological Options Network. It makes sense that, if humans are 70 percent water run by an electrical nervous system, that the electropollution (that most of us don’t consciously notice) would impact our health. Back in the 1970s, Robert Becker, author of “The Body Electric,” predicted we would experience multiple health issues if we weren’t careful about our electric devices. If you are interested in learning more about this topic, there is a free public lecture, Solutions for Electropollution, by Moira Forsythe, Doctor of Naturopathy, at Solar Energy International from 7-9 p.m. tonight.
