Denver not only person inspired by Mt. Sopris

Dear Editor:

Regarding renaming Mt. Sopris to John Denver Peak, I won’t lose any sleep if that happens, and I truly love what John Denver has contributed through his music, but when he was inspired to write that great song “Rocky Mountain High,” he was inspired by Mt. Sopris, and not Mt. John Denver.

If a mountain has to be named after him, great, but why not find a peak that doesn’t already have a name? If you stand on top of Sopris, there are many that could honor the man if that has to be done. I think he was inspired by mountains, not just Sopris, and I doubt there would be any opposition to doing that. I would support it.
