Dem gathering tonight

Dear Editor:

There is an important meeting at 5:30 tonight at the Pitkin County Library meeting room for all Pitkin County Democrats and interested valley Democrats to prepare for the upcoming caucuses.

We will discuss the political context of the caucuses, including the heated primary between Senator Bennet and Andrew Romanoff (former Speaker of the State House), health care and cover a quick and practical review of how the caucuses are run.

The caucuses will meet to vote, as required by state law, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at the High School Commons (the cafeteria). The caucuses will be followed by the County Assembly and in May by the State Convention.

The annual Jefferson/Jackson State Democratic Party Dinner (known as the JJ Dinner) will be held on Saturday, March 6 at the Sheraton Denver downtown hotel (previously known as the Adams Mark Hotel). Registration, drinks and VIP Reception will be at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7. Speakers will be Jim Messina, President O’bama’s deputy chief of staff, and New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen. Sen. Shaheen is the first woman elected governor and senator of any state. This annual dinner is a fun and interesting event attended by virtually all state, local and party elected officials and political junkies interested in talking to them and keeping up with the latest politics. Call Camilla Auger for discount tickets.

We look forward to seeing you at 5:30 p.m. today.

Camilla Auger

chair, Pitkin County Democratic Party
