Delta boosts summer service to Aspen

Traveler demand has convinced Delta Air Lines to offer a second daily connection between Aspen and Salt Lake City, starting July 1, the airline announced today.

The carrier announced in March it would introduce service between Aspen and its Salt Lake hub, starting this summer. At that time, it intended to offer one flight a day in and out of Aspen from June 8 through Sept. 2.

“We’ve seen a positive response to the first flight announced in March and are excited to see the desire for increased Delta service to Aspen,” said Bob Cortelyou, Delta vice president of network and planning, in a press release.

Bill Tomcich, president of local reservations agency Stay Aspen Snowmass and the resort’s liaison to the airline industry, voiced hope that Delta will see demand for Aspen service that exceeds its expectations and leads to a decision to serve the resort over the long term.

Delta has not yet announced an intention to serve the Aspen market for the winter season.

The Delta Connection will be operated by SkyWest Airlines using the 70-seat CRJ-700 jet.

With the addition of Delta Connection, there will be four airlines flying into Aspen, including United Explus, Northwest Airlink and America West Express.
