Debut marathon was a great success

Dear Editor: Thank you, Aspen, for a truly one-of-a-kind event! Nearly 250 participants participated in the inaugural Aspen Backcountry Marathon on Saturday, Aug. 27.

We are so fortunate for all of our volunteers who helped mark the course and kept participants safe, hydrated, motivated and timed. We thank Pitkin County and the U.S. Forest Service for allowing us to showcase all of the beauty and glory that the White River Forest has to offer, the Aspen Police Community Safety officers, and all who helped make this such a great event.

A thank you goes out to our Aspen Backcountry Marathon committee members and a special thanks to Austin Weiss, Jeff Alden, Steve Szoradi and Mike Trecker.

The Aspen Backcountry Marathon would like to thank our sponsors: Hammer Nutrition, Aspen Alpine Guides, Ricky’s Lucky Nuts, Hit the Ground Running, Marmot and the U.S. Forest Service.

And of course, a big thank you to all those who participated! We have no doubt that you will see the marathon year after year and we look forward to seeing you at next year’s event!
