Debra Rahr Buchanan

Aspen resident Debra Rahr Buchanan died on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009. She was born on Sept. 6, 1955.

Debra spent her childhood in Appleton, Wis., before moving to Boulder. During her formative years at CU, Debra obtained her degree and cultivated her passion for dance. She also made friends who would remain close to her throughout life, rallying to her side during her battle with cancer.

After graduating from CU in 1978, Debra resumed her western migration, finding her lifelong home in Aspen. She could often be seen hiking to Cathedral Lake, riding her bike to Ashcroft or playing a respectable round at the Aspen Golf Club. Debra appreciated the town’s artistic culture, especially finding inspiration from the performances at the Aspen Music Festival.

Debra’s love of adventure led her to travel the world over.

Many felt fortunate to be her friend, inspired by her grace and kindness. As Anais Nin wrote, “Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.”

Deb’s wish: Hold fast to your dreams.
