David Y. Klein

The Aspen Times
Aspen, CO Colorado

David Y. Klein passed away on March 13, 2012 at his home in the Fryingpan Valley near Basalt.

David was born in Detroit, Mich. on June 17, 1933. He graduated from the University of Chicago Law School and received his J. D. in 1958. He practiced law in the Detroit area from 1959 until he moved to Colorado in 1991.

David first started coming to ski in the Aspen area in the 1960s. For the last 20 years, he has enjoyed skiing and hiking and simply admiring the natural beauty of his surroundings here in Colorado. He particularly loved walking in the wild places around the Fryingpan Valley with his two Airedales, Sally and Raven. Everyone who knew David commented on his kindness.

There will be an informal ceremony to celebrate David’s life at his home at 582 Big Hat Road, Basalt, Colo., beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2012.

David is survived by his wife, Barbara. David and Barbara were married in 1981. He is also survived by his five children from a prior marriage: Erik Klein, Ingrid Kettunen, Kirstin Klein, Christopher Klein and Anders Klein, and five grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in David’s memory to one of the following organizations: CARE, Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International, The Humane Society of the United States or the Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers.
