Best known for his jovial personality, jolly chuckle, sense of humor, love of the history of baseball and of the New York Yankees, affinity for Disney characters, passion for art, poetic writing and music, and profound genuineness to others, former Aspen Assistant City Attorney David W. Hoefer peacefully passed away Friday, May 30, 2008, in Glenwood Springs.

David was born April 26, 1952, in Alexandria, Minn., the son of Wallace and Audrey Hoefer. He graduated from St. Olaf College in 1974 and received his law degree from the Missoula Law School, in Missoula, Montana, in 1977.

He began his law career in Billings, Mont., as a county attorney. In 1994, he moved to Glenwood Springs, where he was the assistant Garfield County attorney. He then accepted a position of assistant city attorney of Aspen, where he was employed until his death.

He enjoyed his 13-year tenure with the city of Aspen, dealing with municipal court matters and devoting insurmountable hours to attending meetings of the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Historic Preservation Commission, the Board of Adjustments, the Liquor License Authority and the City Council. He established a lasting professionalism within the community and always will be remembered with wonderful personal memories by his countless lifelong friends.

David was laid to rest Thursday, June 5, in Alexandria, Minn., and is survived by his loving parents, Wally and Audrey Hoefer.
