Dave Dhuyvetter, affectionately known as Dave Dawg, passed away at his home in Aspen on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011. He was 58 years old.
Dave was born in New Jersey on Dec. 29, 1954. Gifted in many ways, the Dawg worked in New York City working as an elevator mechanic for more than 10 years at Higdon Elevator. His passion for all things mechanical led him to become a master electrician. Although a master of his craft, his irreplaceable ability to share his knowledge with others is what set him apart. Dave was always the first to lend a helping hand, especially when it was not convenient. Those who were open to learning knew they were being taught by one of the best.
Although a man with many hats, it was his signature train engineer cap that most often adorned his pony-tailed head. Fitting to his persona, his final place of rest will be along the tracks of the Union Pacific railroad, with the roar of the train performing a sweet symphony that only a Dawg could love. So don’t be surprised if one day you find yourself strolling along a set of tracks and an old Bob Dylan song comes to mind. Know that you are not alone in song and in spirit.
Dave Dawg will be missed by many for his enormous heart, honesty, professionalism and above all, his love of life.
