Dangerous walking

Dear Editor:

Living on the El Jebel hill, we are increasingly alarmed at how many people have forgotten the basic rule of walking facing traffic. It is crazy to walk along, sometimes even wearing headphones, oblivious to the fact that the driver of the car coming up at your back might be half asleep or drunk or blinded by the sun or just reaching to adjust their radio.

You need to maintain eye contact with the driver to be sure he or she is paying attention, and you can’t do that if the car is approaching from the rear. Perhaps people from other cultures were not taught this basic safety rule, but those of us raised in this country learned it in grade school. Pass it on!
