Police: Basalt woman awoken to intruder in her home

An unknown person entered a woman’s house in Basalt early Thursday morning and committed unlawful sexual contact, according to the Police Department.

The woman called 911 at about 1:30 a.m. to report that someone entered her home on River’s Edge Court.

“She was awoken by someone rubbing her buttocks,” Police Chief Greg Knott said.

The woman screamed and the person fled, according to Knott. The entry and exit was apparently through an unlocked sliding-glass door. A neighbor heard the scream and called 911 simultaneously with the victim. Neither party could provide a description of the person. Officers from Basalt and Eagle County responded but were unable to find the person.

Knott asked that anyone who saw something call the Police Department at 970-927-4316. In addition, he advised Basalt residents to lock their doors.
