Man cited on suspicion of harassing teen girl near Holland Hills bus stop
Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Lazy Glen resident for misdemeanor harassment after he allegedly groped a teenage girl near the Holland Hills bus stop.
Benigno Castillo, 47, remained in Pitkin County Jail as of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The incident allegedly happened Sunday night before 10, after Castillo and the girl disembarked a public bus on Highway 82 at the Holland Hills stop.
The girl told authorities that when she crossed Highway 82 to go Holland Hills, Castillo followed her and later became aggressive by asking her name, grabbing her and trying to hug her, according to a sheriff’s deputy’s report.
The girl later “got away from Castillo and hid in the trees on the side of Holland Hills Road,” the report says.
Soon after, her mother’s boyfriend picked her up.
Authorities then went to a nearby house where they believed Castillo was staying and found him sleeping on the couch, according to the report.
Castillo was “visibly intoxicated,” said the report, noting that his smell matched the girl’s description of him — that of body odor and laundry detergent.
Castillo admitted to talking to the girl but later denied it. He also told authorities he believed the girl was a racist and he “adamantly denied” ever touching her.
Castillo also told deputies he has three daughters and “he knew better than to touch a woman,” the report says.
He is scheduled to answer the charges in Pitkin County Court on Sept. 15.
