Local mom accused of trying to kill her children

Glenwood Springs Post Independent

Maria Alvarado-Gomez, 32, of Carbondale, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion on suspicion of attempting to poison her children, ages 8 and 11.

The children were transported to Valley View Hospital by Carbondale Ambulance but have been released.

The manner of the alleged attempted poisoning was not described in a statement from Carbondale police. The statement said the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office assisted with the investigation, which it said was continuing.

Alvarado-Gomez was being held at the Garfield County Jail on two counts of first-degree attempted murder, a Class 2 felony.

The case remains under investigation.
