El Jebel man arrested for alleged sexual assault on child

Staff report
Jacinto Zelaya-Zelaya
Eagle County Jail |

A 34-year-old El Jebel man was arrested by the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday for sexual assault on a child, a Class 3 felony, and sexual assault, a Class 4 felony.

Jacinto Zelaya-Zelaya was taken into custody without incident after an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, according to a media statement. The Sheriff’s Office said it received a report Tuesday of alleged sexual assaults that occurred multiple times over the past two years.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jessie Mosher said the department was limited in what it could say because the incident involved a minor. No information was available on the relationship, if any, between the suspect and victim.

Zelaya-Zelaya was in custody of Eagle County Jail on Wednesday. Bond was set at $50,000.

The arrest was the second made for alleged sexual assault in the midvalley in less than one month. The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office arrested Noe Vergara Hernandez, 36, of Basalt in April for sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust. He posted bond of $10,000 and was released.
