Crews still battling Colorado wildfires

MEEKER, Colo. ” An 834-acre wildfire burning near Meeker is about 15 percent contained.

The blaze seven miles northwest of Meeker is one of several started by lightning in northwest Colorado this week. Nearly 70 federal and state firefighters are battling the wildfire.

Air tankers have dropped fire retardant on the flames. The fire is burning on federal land managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

Five miles southwest of Rifle, a 131-acre wildfire on federal land is 35 percent contained. Five aircraft, including an air tanker, are attacking the fire. There are oil and gas facilities in the area, but none is under threat.
