Crews battling fire south of Glenwood
Crews from several agencies this afternoon are battling a wildland fire in Red Canyon just South of Glenwood Springs.
Initial reports said 2 to 3 acres of juniper were involved, with flames of five to 10 feet. By 6 p.m., firefighters estimated 6 to 7 acres were involved, with crews beginning to build a fire line.
The fire apparently started at about 4 p.m.
The exact location of the fire wasn’t known, but it was east of Highway 82, well up the road across from the closed Buffalo Valley Sports Bar.
A federal crew, the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire district, Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District and Glenwood Springs firefighters were on the scene.
A helicopter was on the scene and additional resources were on the way.
