Crash kills man near Basalt

Aspen Times writer

Norbert Anthes, 64, of Basalt, died Saturday morning when his car went off the road and rolled down a steep embankment near Basalt. Anthes was driving north on Cedar drive at 7:20 a.m. when his car went off the right side of the road. He was not wearing a seat belt in his 2004 GMC 3500 truck and was tossed from the vehicle as it rolled multiple times. Anthes died instantly, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Though the patrol is still investigating the crash, it believes alcohol is a factor. Cedar Drive was closed for five hours as the truck was recovered.
