Correcting the candidate
Mark Kittle announced he is running for Basalt Town Council. In his Aspen Times interview he said, “If City Market burned down tomorrow, we’d lose all our income.”
Mark is a nice guy, but citizens of Basalt should know the real numbers. Basalt receives roughly $1.6 million dollars in total sales tax revenue. City Market is in a category that contributes roughly $600,000 (or 37 percent) to the total. The other stores that make up that $600,000 are Clark’s, 7-11, Epicurious, Texaco and Midland Depot.
If City Market burned down tomorrow, we’d lose about a third of our income and a mediocre produce department.
