Cops plan extra DUI patrols

BASALT ” Ghosts and goblins would be well advised to stay sober if they are driving in the midvalley.

The Basalt Police Department will run extra DUI patrols beginning this weekend and continuing through Halloween on Wednesday, Oct. 31, according to officer Jeni Newcomb. The DUI saturation is part of the Colorado State Patrol’s “Heat is On” campaign to prevent drunken driving.

Basalt will not establish a sobriety checkpoint on its roads, but there will be additional officers on patrol watching for signs of drunken driving, Newcomb said.
