Controlled burn scheduled in Snowmass

Staff report

The Snowmass-Wildcat Fire Protection District will conduct controlled burning this week in the common area between Sinclair and Oak Ridge roads.

The burn will include about 15 small slash piles of brush left from wildfire mitigation work conducted last summer. It will take place from May 1 to 6 and be monitored by Snowmass firefighters and employees from the private company Markit Forestry Management.

Passersby may see or smell smoke and are asked not to call 911 if it is related to the controlled burn.

“We will try to be sensitive to reduce any smoke that may become an irritant, or if you have health problems, please give us a call at 970-923-2212,” said a letter to neighborhood homeowners from the Fire Department. “You may wish to keep your windows and doors closed while this burning operation is taking place.”
