Connecting the dots

Dear Editor:

Aug. 23 was a big day for Aspen-area bikers and pedestrians. After the Pro Challenge left town in the morning, the last trail link from Aspen to Difficult Campground was officially opened at a ribbon cutting at the Wildwood Road. Now there is approximately a 45-mile unbroken trail (except for a few turns in Aspen) all the way from Difficult Campground to Glenwood Springs – a remarkable valleywide resource!

A long-term vision shared by the Difficult Campground area neighbors, East of Aspen Caucus, city and county open space programs and U.S. Forest Service, exemplified by its critical role in the Ryan Parcel Exchange and the community in general, enabled the trail to be built in stages over the past three decades.

Now everyone can safely and pleasantly go from town to Difficult Campground during all four seasons – whether on foot, bike or skis. Please come out and enjoy the experience of the completed trail from Aspen to Difficult Campground.

It’s your trail system that provides access to the national forest.
