Community support aided healing

Dear Editor:On May 29, I had a serious bicycle accident attempting to avoid a deer on the Maroon Bells road. My injuries involved a number of complications and required extended ICU medical care. The doctors and nurses at the Aspen Valley Hospital rose to the challenge with the skill and compassion they are noted for. I thank them with all my heart.I also want to acknowledge and thank all those that held me in their thoughts and prayers, sent me letters and cards of encouragement, made phone calls, set up a benefit, came by to see me and supported my wife and family lovingly. My colleagues at Aspen High School stepped in immediately to help me with exams, and were most supportive during my 10 days in the ICU and after. Students and parents rallied their energies and surrounded my family and myself with prayers and caring gestures. Friends, my wife Anne Byard’s yoga students, as well as total strangers inspired prayer circles, supplied healing tapes and lent a helping hand.Love took the place of fear, and I feel my rapid healing Is a direct result of the heartfelt, supportive Aspen community. Thank you, thank you, thank you, your prayers and love certainly sustained us.Jim MorrisAspen
