Community makes Basalt homecoming a success
October 6, 2011
On behalf of the Basalt High School Student Council, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all those who helped make our homecoming week such a success. In my opinion, this was the best homecoming at BHS in recent years, and this wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support from everyone in the Basalt community.
Thank you to parents, teachers, coaches and staff for being supportive of the students, allowing us to have this fun week, and giving your time to help at our events. From powder-puff football and brute volleyball to tug-a-war at lunch and the bonfire, I saw a smile on every kid’s face.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Mr. Smalley, our advisor and athletic director, for everything he has done to contribute to our school and make these things possible. Thank you to the entire Basalt community for coming out on Friday and watching the parade. Thank you to Chaffin Light Real Estate in Basalt for decorating our town in purple and gold balloons and to all the businesses that have chosen to sponsor BHS. Thank you to the Basalt police and fire departments for making the parade possible. Thank you to Grassroots TV for filming our big day on Friday. Thank you to Suzanne Wheeler at BES for her efforts in helping the little kids get excited; to Jeremy Voss and Ty Haden at BMS for their willingness to let us in their school for our community pep rally and create a new, fun tradition in Basalt. Thank you to Jamie Theriot at Smoke Modern BBQ for sponsoring our Tailgate Party, along with the Basalt Chamber and Alpine Bank. Thank you to the Lions Club for volunteering at our tailgate parties. Thank you to Karen Baxter and Jim Cleaver at the Roaring Fork Club for providing the homecoming court with golf carts. Finally, thanks to all of the community members who came and supported the Longhorns throughout the week and showed their pride in Basalt – it means a lot to everyone at BHS!
The fun memories you have allowed us to create on these days will last a lifetime. In no way would this week have been possible without your support. I credit all of you for the success of the Longhorns. Please stay tuned and help us continue to make this a great year at BHS and in the Basalt community. Go Longhorns!
