Community issues get focus in Snowmass

SNOWMASS VILLAGE – The Snowmass Town Council has scheduled a special meeting for April 9. On the agenda are two hot-button issues for elected officials and local residents: the town’s entryway and construction of the new Westin Snowmass/Wildwood Lodge.

According to a draft meeting agenda posted online (, the Town Council will spend an hour discussing Phase III of the Snowmass Village Entryway, which includes the Rodeo Arena and Visitor Center. Council members are being asked to review the conceptual plan and program elements; decide whether the enclosed facilities meet the vision of the Rodeo Arena area; and provide feedback on the program elements.

The council also will hear a presentation on the Westin Snowmass/Wildwood Lodge Renovation Project Construction Management Plan. The plan was presented last week at two public open houses; it also was mentioned at Monday’s Town Council meeting, raising eyebrows among council members. Their chief concern was about the impact the construction management plan would have on summer business. Thus, a discussion of the matter was added to the special meeting agenda.

The Town Council meets at 4 p.m. on April 9 in the Town Hall council chambers.
