Comments sought on Braun huts proposal

The U.S. Forest Service is seeking public comments on planned improvements to the cabins in the Alfred A. Braun Hut System.

The Braun huts, located near Ashcroft on Forest Service lands, are operated for public use under a special use permit from the Forest Service. The Braun Hut proposal is a five-year plan which includes both interior and exterior work on the six huts.

A major change would be to close the existing pit toilets that are attached to the buildings and build a new detached vault toilet adjacent to each cabin. The character of the huts would not be changed by the improvements.

As part of the environmental analysis for the project, the Forest Service welcomes comments outlining concerns with the proposals.

Anyone with thoughts about the Braun Hut System proposal should submit them in writing to the Aspen Ranger District by May 1.

Send them to: Aspen Ranger District, 806 W. Hallam St., Aspen, CO 81611. For more information, call Andy Steele at 925-3445.
